New CMC–Goro–VIP corridor eases transport, boosts business and green spaces in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, August 30, 2025 (FMC) — The newly completed CMC–Goro–VIP Corridor, connecting the Addis International Convention Center to the Bole Airport VIP terminal, is already transforming traffic flow, business activity, and public spaces in Addis Ababa, according to the Office of the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and First Lady Zinash Tayachew, accompanied by senior government officials, reviewed the project this morning. Spanning more than 290 hectares and stretching 12.74 kilometers with 15.27 km of dedicated bike lanes, the corridor integrates with the Bole Airport connection road at CMC to create a seamless link across a key section of the city.

The corridor includes five modern bus and taxi terminals, four large parking facilities, and 17 designated loading and unloading bays. It also features underground electric and telecom lines, stormwater drainage pipes, and new streetlights, ensuring modern infrastructure along the route.

Beyond transportation, the corridor enhances livability. Over 130 hectares of riverside areas have been developed into vibrant green spaces, and more than 320 buildings along the corridor have been renovated. These improvements have already attracted commercial activity, with over 350 new shops opening along the route, easing traffic congestion, and improving public transport services.

The Office of the Prime Minister said the corridor demonstrates a holistic approach to urban development, combining mobility, economic growth, and public spaces to create a more accessible and liveable Addis Ababa.
