Over 1.2 billion quintals of crops harvested in nine months – Ministry
Addis Ababa, May 3, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia has harvested more than 1.2 billion quintals of crops over the past nine months of the 2024/25 fiscal year, the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) announced.
The announcement was made during the Ministry’s nine-month performance review meeting this weekend.
On the occasion, Minister of Agriculture Girma Amente (PhD) reported that the government had targeted the cultivation of 30 million hectares of land and aimed to harvest over 1.4 billion quintals of crops throughout the current fiscal year.
According to the Minister, 31.6 million hectares have already been cultivated, surpassing the initial plan, with harvests reaching over 1.2 billion quintals to date.
He added that more than 300 million quintals of wheat have been produced so far, while harvesting of irrigated wheat remains in progress.
In the same period, Ethiopia produced 1.1 million tons of coffee and exported 300,000 quintals, generating $1.5 billion in revenue, he disclosed.
Mr. Girma emphasized that the agricultural sector has recorded notable growth in both productivity and value addition, signaling continued progress toward national food security and export targets.
