Over 15 Million Children Vaccinated Against Polio Nationwide in the 2nd Round of the Campaign

Addis Ababa, June 15, 2025 (FMC) — More than 15.3 million children have been vaccinated in the second round of Ethiopia’s nationwide polio vaccination campaign, the country’s Public Health Institute (EPHI) announced.

Mikiyas Alayu, Polio Epidemic Response Coordinator at EPHI, told Fana Media Corporation that the campaign is part of the country’s continued efforts to eradicate polio.

He stated that the second round of the vaccination campaign, which began on May 30, 2025, has reached 15.3 million children across all regions so far.

In addition to the polio campaign, Mikiyas noted that broader coordinated vaccination activities are being carried out to strengthen routine immunization and prevent resurgence of the virus.

“Ensuring the polio vaccine is accessible in all areas of the country is critical to complete eradication,” he emphasized, adding that EPHI remains committed to reaching every community.
