Pakistani President Seeks to Elevate Diplomatic and Economic Ties with Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, April 8, 2026 (FMC) — Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed his country’s desire to elevate diplomatic and economic relations with Ethiopia, during a bilateral meeting with Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan, Oumer Hussien Oba, in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The meeting followed an official ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, where Ambassador Oumer presented his Letters of Credence to President Zardari. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation across strategic sectors, including climate change, aviation, agriculture, and business, as well as enhancing collaboration on multilateral platforms.
Ambassador Oumer conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to President Zardari and the people of Pakistan. He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a robust and mutually beneficial partnership during his mission in Islamabad.
The ambassador also expressed Ethiopia’s appreciation for Pakistan’s “Look Africa and Engage Africa” policies, which underscore Pakistan’s commitment to advancing relations with East African nations. President Zardari reciprocated the greetings and wished the ambassador a successful tenure.
The meeting highlighted both countries’ commitment to building stronger ties through diplomacy, trade, and strategic cooperation, signaling a shared interest in expanding engagement between Ethiopia and Pakistan.
