PM Abiy Ahmed receives president of Burundi Évariste Ndayishimiye

Addis Ababa, April 9, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed received the President of Burundi and the current Chairperson of the African Union Évariste Ndayishimiye at his office.

Pictures shared on the Ethiopian prime minister’s social media pages show that Premier Abiy hosting an official welcoming ceremony at the National Palace.

“President Évariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi, it is with great honour that I welcome you to a nation that receives you with open arms and warm hospitality, alongside its remarkable people, rich culture, and the immense potential that serves as the foundation for our shared development and prosperity,” PM Abiy said in a social media post.

Prime Minister Abiy recalled that Ethiopia and Burundi share a deep-rooted history of brotherhood and mutual respect.

“We highly value the enduring bond between our two nations,” he asserted.

PM Abiy added, “On your official visit, Iam confident that your stay will further strengthen our relation as we work together to transform our shared vision for the future into a reality. I am delighted to say, welcome home again!”

It is noteworthy that President Évariste Ndayishimiye has arrived in Addis Ababa in the early hours of Thursday for an official working visit.

Since his arrival, the President visited the headquarters of Ethiopuan National Defense Forces (ENDF) where he held talks with Ethiopia’s Defense Minister Ms. Aisha Mohammed. He also toured the Bole Lemi Special Economic Zone, a significant manufacturing industry zone in the outskirts of Addis Ababa.
