PM Abiy Ahmed says rural corridors are reshaping farmers’ and pastoralists’ livelihoods nationwide

Addis Ababa, January 17, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited a model rural development site in Guraferda Woreda, Southwest Ethiopia People’s Regional State, on Saturday as part of the government’s ongoing rural corridors initiative.

According to the Prime Minister’s statement on social media, the rural corridors development is a national initiative aimed at transforming the lives of farmers and pastoralists across the country. The site in Guraferda was developed by the Office of the Prime Minister and other accountable institutions.

The model compound features ten modern houses, each equipped with bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, store, a cattle room, and an outdoor bathroom. All homes are connected to the electric grid and equipped with satellite dishes.

The site also includes chicken coops, cattle shelters, beehives, and a garden rich with fruits and vegetables. Implemented with integrated solutions such as solar energy and biogas, the project is designed to provide communities with a modern, healthy, clean, and improved standard of living.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the success and expansion of the rural corridors initiative across other areas requires the participation of all stakeholders.
