PM Abiy Ahmed: Shabelley Resort embodies Somali region heritage and Ethiopia’s tourism vision
Addis Ababa, January 31, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed highlighted the cultural and developmental significance of Shabelley Resort in a social media post following its inauguration in the Somali Region.
Spanning 385 hectares, the resort is described by PM Abiy as “a living expression of the rich heritage of the Somali Region, seamlessly blending modern architecture with ancient traditions.”

After inaugurating the project, the Prime Minister emphasized that Shabelley Resort is part of Ethiopia’s broader Dine for Generations initiative and represents a key step toward positioning the country as one of Africa’s top tourist destinations.
He noted that the project, alongside other regional developments and partnerships fostered under the Medemer philosophy, shows that Ethiopia is “not only a nation that dreams, but one that turns those dreams into reality.”
The statement frames Shabelley Resort as a landmark for sustainable tourism, cultural preservation, and national development, reflecting Ethiopia’s commitment to leveraging its natural and cultural wealth.
