PM Abiy: Ethiopia turning bold food systems commitments into large-scale action
Addis Ababa, July 29, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has reaffirmed that Ethiopia is transforming its bold food systems commitments into large-scale, tangible action, anchored in strong leadership, green growth, and integrated development.
“Today, we concluded the Second Stocktake of the UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4) here in Addis Ababa,” the Prime Minister stated in a message shared on his social media channels regarding the concluded summit.
“Ethiopia has clearly demonstrated how it is translating bold commitments into tangible, large-scale investments in food systems. Through strong local leadership, a resilient green economy, and integrated infrastructure across sectors, the country is strengthening school feeding programs, expanding job opportunities, and boosting local markets—laying the foundation for inclusive and sustainable development.”
He also emphasized Ethiopia’s pride in co-hosting the global summit: “Ethiopia is also proud to have co-hosted this important Summit and warmly welcomed participants from around the world to the Land of Origins. For those staying a bit longer, we invite you to explore the rich history, culture, and natural beauty that make Ethiopia the birthplace of so much.”
The UNFSS+4 Stocktake was co-hosted by Ethiopia, Italy, and the United Nations. It brought together leaders, ministers, and experts from across the globe to assess progress since the 2021 Summit and accelerate efforts to build sustainable, equitable, and resilient food systems. Ethiopia showcased its national leadership through practical initiatives such as integrated food security programs, the Green Legacy campaign, and policy alignment across sectors.
