PM Abiy Extends Term of Tigray Region Interim Administration President by One Year

Addis Ababa, April 8, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has extended the term of Lt. Gen. Tadesse Worede, President of the Tigray Region Interim Administration, for an additional one year following the conclusion of his current term.

The decision came after the Prime Minister received and reviewed a performance report presented by Lt. Gen. Tadesse on the work of the interim administration over the past term.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the extension takes effect from April 9, 2026 and is made in line with relevant legal provisions governing the interim administration.
