PM Abiy Hands Over Model Rural Homes to Residents of Hadiya and Silte Zones
Addis Ababa, October 10, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has handed over model rural homes to residents of the Hadiya and Silte zones, marking the continuation of his government’s initiative to develop sustainable and prosperous rural communities across the country.
The handover on Friday follows similar events held earlier in the Halaba and Kembatta zones of Central Ethiopia region.
The three-bedroom homes, constructed with locally sourced materials, are equipped with biogas facilities for cooking, solar energy systems, chicken coops, and separate sheds for cattle.
They represent the government’s vision of affordable homesteads designed to improve living standards and strengthen self-reliance in rural areas.
In a message shared on his social media pages after the ceremony, Prime Minister Abiy reflected on the societal mindset that can limit progress.
“As a society, we may often suffer from an ingrained mentality that says ‘it’s not possible’ whenever a new idea or ambitious project emerges,” he wrote. “However, we must not fall into disbelief or denial of what has already been achieved and made tangible.”
He called on citizens to believe in change and to prioritize resources effectively to transform their communities.
“Citizens must believe that change is possible and that by directing our resources toward the right priorities, we can indeed transform our communities,” he emphasized.
Prime Minister Abiy also urged the regional leadership to replicate the achievements of the four zones throughout Central Ethiopia, describing it as a “grand task” essential for broader rural transformation.
