PM Abiy, IMF chief discuss global economic trends and Ethiopia’s economic reforms

Addis Ababa, November 22, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today held a bilateral discussion with the Managing Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the sidelines of the ongoing G20 Leaders Summit 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister and the IMF chief discussed matters pertaining to global economic trends and Ethiopia’s national economic reforms.

They also discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Ethiopia and IMF in support of sustainable and inclusive growth in the east African nation, PM Abiy said in a social media post.

“At the G20 Summit, I held a constructive bilateral meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva during which we discussed global economic trends, our national economic reforms, and opportunities to strengthen cooperation in support of sustainable and inclusive growth,” he said.

He also appreciated the IMF’s continued partnership with Ethiopia and said looking forward to advancing shared priorities of Ethiopia and IMF.

Prime Minister Abiy is currently participating in the G20 Summit alongside other global leaders to discuss major international economic issues and strengthen multilateral cooperation.
