PM Abiy Names Eyob Tekalign as New Central Bank Governor

Addis Ababa, September 19, 2025 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has made two high-level appointments to key federal institutions, effective September 19, 2025.

Eyob Tekalign (PhD) has been named Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), succeeding former Governor Mr. Mamo Mihretu. Before his appointment, The new central bank governor Eyob served as State Minister of Finance, where he played a central role in economic reform and international negotiations.

In a parallel move, Ms. Enatalem Meles has been appointed as Head of the FDRE Government Communication Services with the Rank of Minister, replacing Legesse Tulu.

Ms. Enatalem has served in various senior government positions and is expected to bring new energy to the institution’s communication and public engagement efforts.
