PM Abiy Says Ethiopia Is Modernizing Dry Ports, Highways, and Warehouses to Strengthen National Logistics
Addis Ababa, January 4, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia is advancing efforts to modernize its dry ports, highways, and warehouses as part of a broader strategy to strengthen national logistics and support economic growth, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said today.
The Prime Minister shared the update on social media following his visit to the Ethio–Djibouti Railway Corporation, where he reviewed the country’s operational capabilities and engaged in discussions on improving logistics readiness to support Ethiopia’s expanding development agenda.
During the visit, PM Abiy reviewed the country’s operational capabilities and held discussions on improving logistics readiness in line with Ethiopia’s expanding development agenda. “As our economy continues to expand, logistics remains one of the key constraints to sustained growth,” he said, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated management across the logistics sector.
The Prime Minister praised the progress made in in-house railway construction, calling it “particularly impressive” and a clear demonstration of Ethiopia’s commitment to building local capacity, improving efficiency, and ensuring long-term sustainability within the rail sector.
PM Abiy emphasized that logistics covers the entire supply chain—from dry ports to warehouses, including railways, highways, transport services, and storage facilities. He noted that significant modernization and improvement efforts are already underway in areas under national control, such as dry ports, railway infrastructure, highways, and warehouse construction.
“Addressing these interconnected logistics challenges in a coordinated manner will be critical to overcoming sectoral bottlenecks and supporting the country’s broader development objectives,” the Prime Minister said, signaling the government’s focus on infrastructure as a key driver of Ethiopia’s economic growth.
