PM Abiy welcomes launch of ‘Pulse of Africa’ to redefine continent’s global narrative

Addis Ababa, October 7, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has hailed the launch of the pan-African media platform “Pulse of Africa” as a pivotal milestone in reshaping the global narrative about Africa and strengthening the continent’s voice in international media.

The Prime Minister attended the official launch of the platform this morning, marking the realization of a vision he first articulated in 2022 during the 35th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly, where he called for the creation of a continental media institution that reflects Africa’s perspectives and narratives.

In a statement on his official social media page, the Prime Minister said the new platform marks “an important step toward countering negative media representations of Africa and asserting our agency in shaping our own narratives.”

He emphasized that despite its vast potential, Africa has long been portrayed as “smaller and less capable than it truly is.” The creation of Pulse of Africa, he noted, represents both a symbolic and strategic beginning toward reclaiming the continent’s image and influence in the global information space.

Abiy described the initiative as “a humble beginning” with the promise to grow into one of the leading continental media platforms in the coming years.

Pulse of Africa aims to serve as a unifying platform that promotes African voices, fosters regional integration, and highlights the continent’s achievements, challenges, and aspirations from an African viewpoint.

Highlighting Africa’s ongoing economic transformation, the Prime Minister underscored that the continent is on course to become “a major industrial powerhouse and a key global player.” In this context, he said, the establishment of Pulse of Africa is a forward-looking effort that lays the foundation for “a strong and authentic African voice in global media.”
