PM Office Says August Marked Major Progress in National Projects and Prime Minister’s Activities
Addis Ababa, September 1, 2025 (FMC) — August 2025 was marked by significant national developments, infrastructure projects, and strategic investments, highlighting Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s engagements across the country, a monthly roundup released by the Office of the Prime Minister said.
The month began with the inauguration of the Entoto–Arat Kilo Plaza corridor, a major urban renewal project featuring pedestrian walkways, bicycle lanes, modern lighting, and upgraded shops.
The revitalization also brought new life to the Shiro Meda market, a longstanding center of traditional handwoven crafts, and introduced public amenities including children’s playgrounds and a soccer field.
Following Prosperity Party Central Council meetings, Abiy reviewed the 21.5 km Addis Ababa Riverside Project, which spans five sub-cities and incorporates walkways, bike lanes, public plazas, parking areas, playgrounds, shops, and amphitheaters. The Prime Minister emphasized the project’s goals to curb river pollution, mitigate flooding, expand green spaces, create jobs, and transform the riverside into a resilient urban hub.
Premier Abiy also inspected industrial facilities, including a Vietnam-based solar cell factory at Hawassa Industry Park, praising its automation and production scale as a model for Ethiopia’s value-added manufacturing and export-led growth strategy.
During his tour of South Ethiopia, the Prime Minister visited Arbaminch, where the Dine for Generations initiative is positioning the city as a future conference destination. He highlighted the Kulfo Riverside development, expanded corridors, and new access roads in Arbaminch Forest, opening opportunities for eco-tourism and urban growth. In Wolayta Sodo, he reviewed large-scale farming and green development projects, noting the region’s agricultural heritage and its contributions to the Green Legacy Initiative.
In Benishangul-Gumuz, Abiy observed industrial and corridor development in Assosa and surrounding areas, particularly the modern Kumruk gold factory. He stressed that mining remains a key pillar of Ethiopia’s multidimensional development strategy and emphasized the region’s growing role in national prosperity.
In Addis Ababa, he inaugurated the completed 12.74 km Addis International Convention Center–Goro–VIP Airport corridor, which includes 29 km of pedestrian walkways and 15.27 km of dedicated bike lanes, strengthening the capital’s transport network.
Another highlight was Abiy’s in-depth interview with Fana Media Corporation on his fourth book, The Medemer State. He described the Medemer philosophy as a refined governance model shaping Ethiopia’s national vision and fostering public trust.
The month’s milestone achievement came with the signing of a historic agreement between Ethiopian Investment Holdings and Nigeria’s Dangote Group to establish a $2.5 billion world-class urea fertilizer complex in Gode. The plant, set to produce 3 million metric tons annually within 40 months, is expected to reduce fertilizer imports, generate thousands of jobs, and position Ethiopia as a leading regional producer.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister, August 2025 marked a decisive phase in Ethiopia’s development trajectory, with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed personally overseeing transformative projects and championing strategic investments to strengthen the nation’s growth agenda.
