President of Burundi Evariste Ndayishimiye Arrives in Addis Ababa for AU Summit

Addis Ababa, February 12, 2026 (FMC) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, arrived in Addis Ababa this afternoon to participate in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, scheduled for February 14-15.

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, President Ndayishimiye was warmly received by Ethiopia’s Minister of Innovation and Technology, Belete Molla, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye.

His visit comes as African leaders continue to arrive in the Ethiopian capital for the summits, which this year focus on “Water Security and Climate Resilience” as the AU theme for 2026.

During the session, President Ndayishimiye is expected to assume the rotating Chairmanship of the African Union for 2026, succeeding the current Chair, President João Lourenço of Angola, underscoring Burundi’s growing diplomatic role on the continent.
