President of China holds meeting with Russian Foreign Minister

Addis Ababa, July 15, 2025 (FMC) – On 15 July, a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is taking place in Beijing. Ahead of the meeting, President of China Xi Jinping held bilateral talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The sides discussed preparations for the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China to participate in the SCO summit, which will be held from 31 August to 1 September in Tianjin. This was reported on the official website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Xi Jinping welcomed the upcoming visit of the Russian president and gave a high assessment of the state of bilateral relations between Beijing and Moscow.

He stated the need to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership and to strengthen mutual support on multilateral platforms.”The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, established with the participation of China and Russia, is a comprehensive regional cooperation mechanism that plays an important role in maintaining peace, stability, and development on the Eurasian continent,” Xi underscored.

For his part, Lavrov emphasised that the Russian side actively supports China’s chairmanship in the SCO and expressed confidence in the successful holding of the organisation’s summit through joint efforts.

On the same day, Xi Jinping also met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, TV BRICS reported, citing its partner media IRNA of Iran.

In addition, the Chinese leader held a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The head of the Indian diplomatic service conveyed greetings from President Droupadi Murmu to the Chinese President.
