Addis Ababa, October 17, 2025 (FMC) – President Taye Atske-Selassie of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia attended the funeral of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, held today at the National Stadium in Nairobi.

The late Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 80, was laid to rest following a large memorial service attended by thousands in Nairobi.

President Taye traveled to Nairobi to pay his respects alongside African heads of state and government, members of Odinga’s family, political leaders, and Kenyan citizens.

At the State House, President Taye signed the book of condolences, describing the late Raila Odinga as a leader who championed unity, Pan-Africanism, and statesmanship.

Kenyan President William Ruto, in a tribute on his social media page, praised Odinga’s lifelong dedication to justice, democracy, and national unity. “In unity of purpose and spirit, we came together, a grateful nation, to celebrate the remarkable life of a statesman whose legacy will endure through the ages,” Ruto wrote.

He further described Odinga as “a man of peace, courage, and unyielding conviction” whose life exemplified “an unwavering commitment to justice, democracy, and national unity.” Ruto emphasized that through his actions, Odinga demonstrated that true patriotism is measured not by what one receives from the country but by what one gives in service to it.

The Kenyan leader concluded, “Today, we honour his towering contribution and the values he embodied – humility, resilience, and steadfast faith in the boundless promise of Kenya.”
