President Taye Calls for Strengthening National Unity on Foundations of Equality
Addis Ababa, December 8, 2025 (FMC) — President Taye Atske-Selassie has called on Ethiopians to reinforce national unity by grounding it in justice, equality, and shared values, emphasizing the importance of building a prosperous, respected, and proud Ethiopia.
The President conveyed the message through his social media platform to mark Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Day, widely known as Ethiopia Day.
The 20th celebration of the Day, held under the theme “Democratic Consensus for National Unity,” brought together Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, regional chief administrators, federal ministers, senior government officials, foreign diplomats, and delegates representing Ethiopia’s diverse nations and nationalities.
According to officials, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed addressed the gathering shortly after the start of the event, discussing national unity, ongoing reform efforts, solidarity, harmony, fraternity, the significance of diversity and Ethiopia’s national assets, and the role of democratic consensus in strengthening the federal system.
Observers noted that the Day provides a platform for Ethiopians to reinforce shared values, advance common national interests, and foster unity through the country’s rich diversity. It also plays a role in raising awareness about federalism and constitutionalism while promoting a collective narrative based on cooperation, mutual respect, and inclusion.
