President Taye inaugurates 22 projects worth over 4 billion Birr at University of Gondar
Addis Ababa, June 15, 2025 (FMC) — President Taye Atske-Selassie today officially inaugurated 22 landmark projects at the University of Gondar, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s development and service to the nation.
The high-profile inauguration ceremony brought together senior federal and regional officials, including Speaker of the House of Federation Agegnehu Teshager and Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh.
Valued at over 4 billion Birr, the projects were launched as part of the University’s 70th anniversary and the centennial celebration of its teaching hospital.
The new facilities aim to expand the University’s public service footprint while enhancing its academic and research capacities.
Among the key developments are a state-of-the-art cancer radiation therapy center, a medical oxygen production plant, a prosthetics manufacturing facility, a modern pre-clinical laboratory, community schools, and innovative campus infrastructure designed to promote research, digital transformation, and system automation.
These initiatives are expected to generate far-reaching benefits at both the national and community levels and are considered instrumental in advancing the University’s vision to become a premier hub for research, education, and community engagement in Africa.
In his remarks, President Taye hailed the University of Gondar as being at a historic crossroads. He urged the institution to preserve the quality of its education and deepen its engagement with communities to elevate Ethiopia’s global reputation.
He described the University’s teaching hospital as a century-old pillar of healing and academic excellence that has produced generations of highly respected professionals while serving as a critical health facility for the region.
Reflecting on the University’s 70-year journey, President Taye praised its role in generating practical solutions and nurturing citizens vital to Ethiopia’s growth.
He underscored the remarkable progress achieved in the past decade, attributing it to the strong partnership between the University’s leadership and the local community.
