Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Inaugurates Niin Lee Palm Lodge in Afar

Addis Ababa, March 22, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed inaugurated Niin Lee Palm Lodge today in the Afar Regional State, part of the government’s Dine for Generations initiative.

In a message shared on his social media pages, the Prime Minister described the lodge as embraced by fruit and forest trees and highlighted its proximity to Awash National Park, which he said enhances visitor comfort while creating significant job opportunities for the local community.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the lodge spans 78,000 square meters of landscaped grounds and features a natural “Blue Eye” hot spring pool, two artificial lakes, and a 3.2-kilometer scenic hiking trail. Accommodation includes two presidential villas with private pools, twelve connected bedrooms, and sixteen one-bedroom units. The facility also offers specialised dining, a reception block, a conference hall, office spaces, parking, and a dual-capacity helipad.

The PMO said Niin Lee Palm Lodge is expected to attract high-end tourism, host conferences, and create employment opportunities across hospitality and service sectors. The lodge reflects the objectives of the Dine for Generations program, combining a world-class tourism destination with sustainable regional development.
