Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed wraps up G20 bilaterals with Italian Prime Minister on global and regional issues of mutual interest
Addis Ababa, November 23, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
“The last of my bilaterals at the G20 Summit was with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, where we discussed global and regional affairs, as well as key bilateral issues between our countries,” PM Abiy shared on his official social media page.
During his participation at the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Abiy delivered a speech emphasizing Africa’s economic potential, ongoing reforms in Ethiopia, and the country’s commitment to attracting long-term private investment.
He also underscored Ethiopia’s efforts in macroeconomic stabilization, market liberalization, financial sector reforms, renewable energy investment, trade facilitation, and strengthening regulatory frameworks to enhance competitiveness.
In addition to bilateral meetings, PM Abiy engaged with leaders and senior officials from several countries, including India, Vietnam, the Republic of Korea, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Finland, and Brazil, as well as multilateral organizations such as the World Bank and the United Nations.
These discussions focused on investment opportunities, economic cooperation, climate action, peace and security, and sustainable development.
The G20 Leaders’ Summit 2025, hosted in Johannesburg, brought together heads of state, government leaders, and representatives of major international organizations to deliberate on global economic governance, sustainable growth, climate action, and multilateral cooperation.
Prime Minister Abiy’s engagements during the Summit reflect Ethiopia’s active role in fostering international partnerships and promoting Africa’s development agenda on the global stage.
