Respect for all faiths and cultures is central to government’s vision: Deputy PM
Addis Ababa, March 9, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh said that respect for all faiths, cultures, and traditions remains central to the government’s vision of unity and integration.
The Deputy PM attended an Iftar program, organized by the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) of Ethiopia, which was attended by the Prime Minister, other senior government officials, and local residents today.
In a social media post after the event, the Deputy Prime Minister said the gathering brought together senior officials, diplomats, institutional staff, and invited followers of the Islamic faith to break the fast during the holy month of Ramadan, which he described as “the month of love, mercy, and goodness.”
DPM Temesgen highlighted that the values reflected during Ramadan should guide daily life, writing: “May the values reflected during this holy month continue to guide us in our daily lives—living in love and unity, building a nation worthy of our children, preserving our cherished tradition of supporting one another, sharing in fellowship, strengthening our bonds of unity, and walking together in harmony and mutual respect.”
He also stressed the importance of inclusivity, noting, “Building an Ethiopia where every faith, culture, and tradition is respected and celebrated remains at the heart of a government committed to unity and integration.”
The Deputy Prime Minister concluded his post by extending his wishes to all followers of the Islamic faith for “a peaceful, spiritually fulfilling, and blessed Ramadan.”
