Security institutions are the shield of Ethiopia’s peace and guardians of national dignity — Deputy PM
Addis Ababa, April 2, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s security and law enforcement institutions play a central role in maintaining national peace, protecting the country’s dignity, and safeguarding its future, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh said today.
He emphasized that recent reforms have strengthened these institutions, enabling them to respond to challenges with discipline, technology, and unity.

The remarks were made today during the National Security Conference held under the theme, “Coordination of Security and Law Enforcement Institutions to Ensure National Peace and Security.”
The event gathered leaders and officials to discuss strategies for enhancing collaboration across federal, regional, and local security agencies.
Addressing the current state of the nation, Deputy PM Temesgen noted that Ethiopia faces both significant opportunities and pressing challenges, including internal conflicts, terrorist threats, and regional geopolitical instability.

He stressed that despite these difficulties, the country has remained resilient and continues to shine as a beacon of hope for Africa, a success sustained by the extraordinary sacrifices of its security personnel.
He highlighted that the relative peace achieved today is a product of modern, capable, and disciplined forces working alongside the Ethiopian people.
“Challenges have been met with resolve and turned into opportunities. The relative peace we experience today did not come easily,” he wrote, emphasizing that the peace is a foundation for economic progress, national projects, and a more prosperous future.
The Deputy Prime Minister also underscored the importance of coordination and unity among federal, regional, and local institutions. “Success in this new era demands more coordination, more unity, more shared purpose. Institutions must act not in isolation, but in concert, aligned in mission and execution,” he said, pointing to progress in Oromia and Amhara as a reason for cautious optimism while noting that the work is not complete.
Looking ahead to the 7th General Election at the end of next May, he expressed confidence in Ethiopia’s security institutions, stating they will fulfill their duties with integrity to ensure the election becomes a historic milestone in strengthening the country’s democracy.
Concluding his message, Deputy PM Temesgen paid tribute to both the security personnel and the Ethiopian people, affirming, “To the brave men and women of our security and law enforcement institutions… you have our deepest respect. And to the Ethiopian people… you remain the true guardians of our national destiny. Together, we will endure. Together, we will prevail.”
