Addis Ababa, March 16, 2026 (FMC) — Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has expressed his condolences to Ethiopia following the recent landslides and floods in the southern part of the country.
In a message shared today by Villa Somalia on social media, the Somali leader conveyed his sincere condolences to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, as well as to the Government and people of Ethiopia.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also extended his sympathies to the families of the victims and to all those affected by the disaster, noting that Somalia stands in solidarity with the Government and people of Ethiopia during this difficult time.
The landslides struck Laka Kebele in the Gamo Zone of the South Ethiopia Regional State, claiming lives and displacing residents in the affected communities. Following the incident, Ethiopia’s House of People’s Representatives declared a three-day national mourning period beginning March 14, during which the national flag is flown at half-mast across government institutions, Ethiopian ships, and diplomatic missions abroad.
