World Leaders Gather Ahead of COP30 to Discuss Climate and Energy Transition

Addis Ababa, November 6, 2025 (FMC) — Heads of state, government ministers and international-organization leaders are meeting this week ahead of the COP30 climate summit in Pará, Brazil, to firm up commitments on key issues such as forests, oceans, energy transition and climate finance.

On November 6‑7, the host state capital will host the summit, which will open with sessions on “Forests and Oceans” and move into “Energy Transition” and “10 Years of the Paris Agreement, NDCs and Financing.”

Brazil chose the Amazon region as the setting to underscore the urgency of safeguarding tropical forests from irreversible damage.

In the lead‑up discussions, the launch of the Tropical Forests Finance Facility (TFFF) drew attention as a governance mechanism designed to channel climate finance to Indigenous peoples and forest‑owning nations.

Meanwhile, participants made clear that achieving the energy transition by 2030 will rely on advancing “transition fuels” such as biodiesel, clean‑energy deployment and strengthening renewable‑fuel supply chains — including the fact that transportation at COP30 will use renewable fuels supplied by Petrobras.

As preparations intensify, diplomats and climate‑finance experts are working behind the scenes to finalise pledges, harmonise national adaptation plans and align investment instruments ahead of the COP30 opening plenary.
