Fruitful engagements between leaders of Ethiopia, Italy advancing strong partnership
Addis Ababa, May 27, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held high-level bilateral talks in Rome on Monday, underscoring their close personal engagement and a shared commitment to elevate the longstanding partnership between Ethiopia and Italy to new heights.
The leaders conducted a comprehensive review of their countries’ ongoing cooperation and explored fresh opportunities to deepen collaboration, particularly through increased investments and strengthened cooperation at regional and multilateral levels.
Since taking office in 2022, Prime Minister Meloni and Prime Minister Abiy have cultivated a strong working relationship characterized by regular dialogue and reciprocal visits. Their close engagement has reinforced a strategic partnership focused on fostering regional peace and security in the Horn of Africa, alongside robust support for Ethiopia’s development priorities.
Prime Minister Meloni’s visit to Ethiopia in 2023 marked a significant milestone, bolstering cooperation across key sectors including industrialization, health, agriculture, and cultural heritage. Italian enterprises and the Italian Development Cooperation continue to play a vital role in advancing Ethiopia’s socio-economic growth agenda.
During their recent meeting in Rome, both leaders reaffirmed their shared vision for sustainable development and pledged to accelerate investment initiatives, demonstrating their mutual resolve to strengthen and expand bilateral ties.
