PM Abiy expresses condolences on passing of Alberto Varnero

Addis Ababa, June 20, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has expressed his condolences on the passing of Alberto Varnero whom the Ethiopian premier described as a pioneering figure in Ethiopia’s construction sector

In a message shared on his social media channels, PM Abiy said; “I express my sincere condolences on the passing of Alberto Varnero, a pioneering figure in Ethiopia’s construction sector since the late 1950s.”

His work has profoundly shaped the nation’s built environment and historical landmarks, Premier Abiy acknowledged.

Among his many contributions delivering landmark projects are the Africa Hall (UN ECA Headquarters), Addis Ababa City Hall, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia Headquarters, Hilton Hotel, Millennium Concert Hall, Jimma Aba Jifar Airport upgrade, Abrehot Library, Unity Park, and the renovation of the National Palace.

“His legacy stands in the foundations of these national landmarks and in the progress they symbolize. May he rest in peace,” Prike Minister Abiy stated.
