PM Abiy, Chinese Premier Discuss Strengthening Ethio-China Partnership

Addis Ababa, July 5, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met and held talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit.

In a message shared after the meeting, Prime Minister Abiy noted that the discussion marked the 55th anniversary of Ethio-China relations, and described the exchange as engaging.

He stated that Ethiopia and China, as “all-weather partners,” have seen their cooperation bear significant fruit over the past seven years. He added that by maintaining focus on key economic pillars—including industry, mining, and ICT—there is even greater potential to deepen collaboration.

Prime Minister Abiy also indicated interest in expanding cooperation into areas such as artificial intelligence, logistics, and the clean energy sector.
