Prez.Taye plants saplings at Chaka Project

Addis Ababa, July 4, 2025 (FMC) — The FDRE President Taye Atske-Selassie participated in a sapling planting event today at the Chaka Project, located on the outskirts of Addis Ababa.

He was joined by staff and senior officials from the Office of the President.

This initiative is part of Ethiopia’s ongoing Green Legacy campaign, which this year aims to plant 7.5 billion tree seedlings under the theme “Renewal through Planting.” The campaign has already prepared 8.4 billion seedlings, surpassing the initial target .

Since its launching in 2019 by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the Green Legacy initiative has led to the planting of over 40 billion trees nationwide, contributing to environmental restoration and climate resilience efforts.

The goal is to reach a cumulative total of 47.5 billion seedlings by the end of this planting season.

Looking ahead, Ethiopia aims to plant 54 billion seedlings by the end of the next planting season, further advancing its commitment to sustainable environmental practices and community engagement.
