Women’s Leadership Central to Ethiopia’s Reform Vision, Minister Affirms
Addis Ababa, August 10, 2025 (FMC) — Minister of Women and Social Affairs Ergogie Tesfaye reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to deepening women’s participation as a vital force in accelerating the country’s reform agenda and achieving sustainable development.
The Ethiopian Senior Women Leaders Forum is currently underway in Addis Ababa, bringing together prominent figures including Adem Farah, Vice President of the Prosperity Party and Head of the Democratic System Building Center with the rank of Deputy Prime Minister, alongside senior government officials, ambassadors, and representatives from diverse women’s organizations.
In her address, Minister Ergogie Tesfaye underscored the pivotal contributions of women throughout Ethiopia’s transformative reform period. She lauded Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali’s visionary leadership, highlighting his steadfast dedication to enhancing women’s political empowerment by facilitating their ascension to senior governmental positions.
Since 2018, under the stewardship of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Ethiopia has embarked on an ambitious reform trajectory marked by the inclusion of a cabinet distinguished by significant female representation in ministerial and key government roles.
“The milestones achieved thus far unequivocally demonstrate the indispensable role of women in advancing societal progress and driving the nation’s development,” Minister Ergogie emphasized.
In recognition of his instrumental role in championing women’s leadership and inclusive decision-making, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed received special commendation at the forum.
The Minister also reiterated ongoing efforts to expand women’s engagement across diverse sectors, in alignment with the strategic objectives outlined in Ethiopia’s Ten-Year Development Plan. She called upon women to intensify their dedication toward contributing meaningfully to Ethiopia’s overall prosperity.
The forum, organized by the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, features panel discussions centered on the theme, “Women Leaders for Ethiopia’s Prosperity.”
