PM Abiy says Medemer State book frames Ethiopia’s path to global integration and generational progress

Addis Ababa, August 20, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said that Medemer State, the fourth book in the Medemer series, provides a generational and globally aware roadmap for Ethiopia’s development, outlining strategies to bridge historical gaps and integrate with the wider world.

In the interview with Fana Media Corporation, PM Abiy detailed how the Medemer philosophy identifies systemic, cultural, and economic weaknesses that have historically held Ethiopia back. The book examines Ethiopia’s lag relative to global development, explores the root causes of political, economic, and social divisions, and proposes innovative methods to accelerate progress.

Medemer State builds on the generational framework established in Medemer Generation, highlighting the creation of a Medemer generation characterized by values such as emotional intelligence, creativity, harmony with nature, and strategic regional awareness. The book details how this generational approach can shape Ethiopia’s domestic policies, governance strategies, and foreign engagement, including perspectives on the Red Sea and cross-border projects.

The Prime Minister also emphasized innovative governance and public participation, including community involvement in large-scale initiatives such as tree planting, corridor development, and school construction. This government-public partnership model demonstrates that citizens’ engagement can achieve transformative results, reinforce accountability, and ensure sustainable national development.

PM Abiy explained that the book provides concrete strategies for narrowing Ethiopia’s historical developmental gaps, moving beyond conventional approaches, and embracing innovation, acceleration, and leapfrogging methods.

The volume, Abiy said, also offers a comparative analysis of previous governments, highlighting lessons learned and improvements achieved under the Medemer philosophy.

“Medemer State provides a comprehensive roadmap for governance, urban-rural development, generational empowerment, and global integration, positioning Ethiopia to overcome historical barriers and achieve sustainable prosperity,” PM Abiy said.
