Modernized Service Delivery Seen as Key to National Prosperity at Bahir Dar Mesob One-Stop Center Launch

Addis Ababa, October 5, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, inaugurated the Bahir Dar Mesob One-Stop Service Center, highlighting the urgent need to modernize public service delivery and strengthen development capacity to achieve the nation’s vision of prosperity.

On the occasion, Temesgen explained that a national policy has been formulated and translated into proclamations, regulations, and guidelines to modernize civil service delivery, ensuring that citizens can access superior services quickly and innovatively.

The Bahir Dar center, which operates 52 service windows where 12 institutions provide multiple services in its first phase, is part of a nationwide initiative that began at the federal level under the direction of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The program is being expanded to all regions, following the success of the initial Mesob One-Stop Center launched in Addis Ababa using domestic resources and skills.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that Ethiopia has been a pioneer in modern government services and administration, yet it still lags behind other countries in terms of service modernization.

The Mesob One-Stop Center was therefore designed to address these gaps, combining professionals and digital technology to save time and resources while reducing repeated service obstacles.

He stressed the importance of empowering professionals, protecting infrastructure from damage, and ensuring uninterrupted service delivery to the public.

Additionally, bringing government services closer to citizens, particularly at the kebele level, is expected to improve satisfaction and enhance accessibility.

Amhara Regional State Chief Administrator, Arega Kebede, highlighted the importance of the Mesob One-Stop Center as a major institutional reform program aimed at bringing government services closer to the people.

The regional chief administrator confirmed that the initiative would soon expand to Gondar and Dessie and eventually cover other cities across the region.

The center is expected to reduce opportunities for corrupt practices, improve service efficiency, enhance citizens’ quality of life, attract investment, and accelerate regional and national development.

Arega Kebede emphasized that serving the people is an obligation for all government institutions and staff, and that employees at the center should act as role models, delivering efficient, high-quality services.

He stressed that institutions should be known for superior service rather than for corrupt practices, and citizens were encouraged to cooperate by reporting and preventing theft and misconduct.

Both federal and regional authorities underscored that the success of the Mesob One-Stop Centers depends on qualified personnel, well-established infrastructure, and a culture of service that prioritizes public satisfaction.

The inauguration of the Bahir Dar center marks a significant step in Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to modernize public service delivery, strengthen governance, and foster sustainable prosperity nationwide, it was emphasized.
