Cabinet Affairs Minister Calls for Strengthened Joint Actions to Safeguard National Cybersecurity

Addis Ababa, October 11, 2025 (FMC) — Head of the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Alemtsehay Paulos, has underscored the need to intensify joint actions to ensure national cybersecurity, emphasizing that digital security is deeply intertwined with Ethiopia’s sovereignty.

The 6th National Cybersecurity Month was officially launched in Addis Ababa today with the objective of raising public awareness on the importance of digital safety and protection.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Alemtsehay noted that in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, cybersecurity has become a core element of national sovereignty. She stressed that strengthening the country’s cybersecurity capacity is crucial for safeguarding Ethiopia’s resilience against potential cyber threats.

She further stated that the Cybersecurity Month is not only an educational platform but also a nationwide call to action—urging citizens, institutions, and organizations to prioritize digital safety in their daily operations.

According to Alemtsehay, the month-long campaign is designed to educate the public, businesses, and organizations about emerging threats in the digital environment while promoting best practices in cybersecurity management.

Information Network Security Agency (INSA) Director General, Tigist Hamid, on her part, highlighted the growing need for comprehensive cybersecurity measures as Ethiopia continues to advance its digital transformation agenda.

She emphasized that the campaign serves as a reminder that safeguarding the digital environment is a shared responsibility. Through awareness programs, training sessions, and panel discussions organized across the country, citizens and institutions are being equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to protect themselves from cyber risks.

Tigist also pointed out that Ethiopia’s efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure and develop robust cybersecurity systems are critical to supporting the nation’s secure and sustainable development goals.

She concluded that the cybersecurity campaign plays a vital role in fostering a safer digital ecosystem—one that enhances economic growth while ensuring the digital well-being of all citizens.
