Youth investment central to Ethiopia’s sustainable dev’t agenda, Minister says

Addis Ababa, October 19, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance Mr. AHhmed Shide emphasized that investing in youth is the cornerstone of sustainable development

He made the remarks during his participation in the high-level Human Capital Ministerial Conclave in Washington, D.C., held on the sidelines of the World Bank–IMF Annual Meetings.

The Minister highlighted the government’s comprehensive approach to aligning education and skills development with the evolving demands of the economy.

He underscored the transformative impact of key World Bank-supported initiatives, including the East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project, the Education and Skills for Employability Project, and the Urban Productive Safety Net and Jobs Project.

These programs, he noted, have created employment opportunities for hundreds of thousands of young people, demonstrating the importance of continued partnership with the World Bank.

The Conclave brought together leaders from over 30 countries, including Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, as well as senior officials from the World Bank, including Senior Managing Director Axel van Trotsenburg, to discuss advancing global human capital development and empowering youth.
