PM Abiy Ahmed says Ethiopia’s potential and capacity on full display at AI Institute
Addis Ababa, November 17, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has highlighted Ethiopia’s potential and capacity at the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII), emphasizing its role in realizing national dreams and empowering the next generation.
The Prime Minister visited the Institute’s newly relocated headquarters, now housed in the former Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation building, and observed the facility’s transformation into a modern, ergonomically advanced environment conducive to research and innovation.
Speaking after the visit on social media, Prime Minister Abiy said the Institute reflects a vision where young people can bring ideas to life, connect with industry, and develop into businesses. “It is wonderful that the Institute has created an environment where young people can not only bring their ideas and visions to life, but also connect with the industry and grow into businesses,” he noted.
He highlighted that more than 200 young innovators are currently participating in programs at the Institute, calling it “a tangible action that indicates the government’s support for the next generation.”
Abiy stressed that relationships between the government and youth should go beyond traditional education. “If talented people can be helped to develop their ideas, many ideas, jobs, and companies will be created. In Africa, there is a perception that it is impossible to start and finish; if we provide the right policies and context, our youth can achieve good results,” he said.
Reflecting on the past five years since the Institute’s launch, the Prime Minister described its achievements as “very exciting,” noting that it demonstrates what can be achieved when vision and discipline meet. “What I have seen today shows that if a person has a clear vision and works with high discipline, they can achieve results quickly,” he added, emphasizing Ethiopia’s potential to harness its resources and talent.
He also highlighted the AI startup center, which strengthens the innovation ecosystem by supporting individuals from concept to prototype, incubation, and private-sector investment. According to PM Abiy, 200 innovators have already benefited from this initiative.
The Prime Minister concluded that the reflection of national dreams and vision at the Institute is promising for future generations, and that clear vision, determination, and hard work are essential to expanding such institutions where Ethiopians can learn, innovate, and lead.
