Addis Ababa Mayor Stresses Continued Commitment to Market-Oriented Job Creation

Addis Ababa, December 3, 2025 (FMC) — Addis Ababa City Administration has launched an intensive employment initiative aimed at improving livelihoods across the capital, with 30,000 youth engaged through a new overnight job creation campaign, Mayor Adanech Abiebie said on Tuesday.

The beneficiaries have been placed in diverse sectors including manufacturing, construction, urban agriculture, trade and services, as part of ongoing efforts to create broad economic opportunities and enhance residents’ well-being.

Mayor Adanech stated that the city is executing numerous impactful initiatives that are already delivering tangible results for residents. She noted that market-oriented job creation programs are underway alongside broader reforms intended to strengthen work culture and productivity in the city.

The newly employed youth were encouraged to work diligently and contribute to community development.

According to the mayor, the large-scale job creation effort will continue to grow and expand across Addis Ababa.

Deputy Mayor for the Bureau of Employment and Skills, Million Mathews, said that many citizens have benefitted from job creation initiatives since the national reform process began.

He added that the administration will continue to widen employment opportunities by leveraging available resources and aligning new jobs with citizens’ skills.

The announcement was made during a forum attended by senior city officials and invited guests.
