Ethiopia Steps Up Rural Road Development to Link Farmers with Markets

Addis Ababa, January 30, 2026 (FMC) — The Ethiopian government is expanding investments in rural roads and essential services to improve farmers’ access to local and regional markets, the Office of the Prime Minister said.

The enhanced infrastructure is reducing travel times and transportation costs, enabling farmers to deliver their products to market more efficiently and improve their incomes.

Improved connectivity is also increasing access to vital services, including healthcare, education, and agricultural support, particularly in rural areas.

According to the Office, the initiatives are contributing to the stimulation of local economies, the promotion of inclusive growth, and the extension of development benefits to remote communities, helping rural households build more resilient and sustainable livelihoods.
