Turkish President Erdoğan lays wreath at Adwa Victory Memorial in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, February 17, 2026 (FMC) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan laid a wreath at the Adwa Victory Memorial in Addis Ababa this afternoon, paying tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for Ethiopia’s freedom.
The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by Addis Ababa City Administration Mayor Adanech Abiebie, who highlighted the significance of the moment and extended her greetings to the Turkish President.

In a message shared on her social media page, she expressed her wishes for a fruitful visit, referring to Ethiopia as the “Land of Origins” and honoring the legacy of the heroes commemorated at the memorial.
It is noteworthy that President Erdoğan arrived in Addis Ababa on Tuesday for an official working visit and was warmly received by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at Bole International Airport. His previous visit to Ethiopia as President of Türkiye was in 2015, making today’s visit the first in a decade to the East African nation.
