Ethiopian Airlines to Inaugurate Three New Domestic Airports by April

Addis Ababa, February 18, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopian Airlines announced that it will inaugurate three newly built domestic airports in Negele Borena, Gore Metu and Debre Markos by mid-April 2026, marking a further expansion of its domestic aviation infrastructure.

The airline said passenger services to the three destinations will commence following the inaugurations, with flights scheduled to operate three times weekly to each airport.

With the addition of the new facilities, Ethiopian Airlines’ domestic network will increase to 26 destinations, strengthening air connectivity across the country and improving access to regional centers.

Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew described the development as a significant milestone for both the airline and the nation. “The inauguration of these three new airports, along with the commencement of passenger services, represents a major milestone for Ethiopian Airlines and for the nation as a whole,” he said, noting that the expansion is aimed at enhancing connectivity and supporting economic growth and regional development.

The airline added that preparations are underway to integrate the new airports into its domestic network as part of broader efforts to modernize the country’s air transport infrastructure. In 2025, Ethiopian inaugurated Yabello Airport as its 23rd domestic destination.
