PM Abiy Ahmed Convenes Third 100-Day Gov’t Performance Review, Assesses Nine-Month Progress
Addis Ababa, April 20, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed convened the Council of Ministers today for the third 100-day review of the current fiscal year, alongside a comprehensive assessment of government performance over the past nine months.
It should be recalled that, over the past eight years, the Prime Minister has institutionalized the 100-day government delivery review model as a mechanism for consistently monitoring and evaluating federal performance.
In a social media post this morning, the Prime Minister stated that the review process has begun as part of the government’s ongoing effort to evaluate performance and track progress across key sectors.
He noted that Ethiopia has moved away from an economic structure previously constrained by weak institutional and political frameworks, limited private sector participation, and an ineffective regulatory environment.
PM Abiy also pointed to challenges that included low competitiveness in the private sector, inefficiencies among state-owned enterprises burdened by debt, low productivity, and vulnerability to climate change impacts.
The Prime Minister indicated that the government has adopted a new pragmatic political economy approach to address these structural challenges and improve overall economic performance.
He further stated that this shift has contributed to sustained growth momentum, with the economy currently expanding at 9.2 percent.
Sectoral performance targets were also outlined, with agriculture growing at 7.9 percent, industry at 13.2 percent, and services at 9.3 percent.
According to PM Abiy, these developments reflect ongoing efforts to build a more resilient, competitive, and inclusive economy through continued reforms and targeted sectoral growth strategies.
