Ethiopia Calls for Expanded EU Investment in Renewable Energy, Key Sectors
Addis Ababa, April 20, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia has called for increased European Union investment in renewable energy and other priority sectors during talks held in Addis Ababa.
The East African country’s Foreign Affairs Minister Gedion Timothewos met with European Union Commissioner for International Partnerships Josef Šíkela at his office, where the two sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Gedion welcomed the successful launch of the European Union–Ethiopia Business Forum held earlier in the day, noting it as an important platform to advance economic engagement.
He underscored that relations between Ethiopia and the European Union continue to grow, while emphasizing the need to scale up cooperation in renewable energy and expand investment across key sectors.
Josef Šíkela reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Ethiopia, highlighting renewable energy infrastructure, digitalization, and other areas as priorities for continued collaboration.
