Addis Ababa Hosts Africa’s First City Mountain Bike Eliminator Pro League at Adwa Victory Memorial
Addis Ababa, May 3, 2026 (FMC) — Addis Ababa has made history by hosting Africa’s first City Mountain Bike Eliminator Pro League at the Adwa Victory Memorial site.
The event brought together competitors from more than 24 countries, marking a significant milestone for the capital in hosting major international sporting competitions.
According to Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie, this event represents the third major international competition hosted in the city within a span of two weeks, underscoring Addis Ababa’s growing role as a hub for global sports events.
The Mayor expressed appreciation to the International Cycling Union (UCI) for its confidence in selecting Addis Ababa as a host city for the continental-level competition.
The event forms part of efforts to promote international sporting engagement in Ethiopia, while positioning the capital as a destination for high-profile cycling and outdoor sports competitions.
The Mayor also indicated that preparations are underway to continue hosting similar events in the coming year.
