Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party Holds Election Campaign Rallies in Oromia and Afar Regions Ahead of June 1 Vote
Addis Ababa, May 20, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s ruling Prosperity Party has conducted voter campaign rallies in Ambo City Administration and the West Shewa Zone of the Oromia Regional State, as well as in Asaita City of the Afar Regional State, ahead of the June 1 general elections.
The campaign events were part of the party’s nationwide mobilization efforts as it seeks to retain its governing mandate for the next five years.
In Oromia, the rally brought together senior regional officials, including Oromia Regional State Deputy Chief Administrator Awelu Abdi, along with party supporters and members.
Addressing participants, Awelu Abdi highlighted what he described as the party’s achievements over the past years, including efforts to build an inclusive political system, strengthen the rule of law, and advance democratic governance structures.
He also pointed to ongoing economic reforms aimed at easing the cost of living, citing housing renovation initiatives for low-income households, community-centered development projects, and expanded social protection programs targeting vulnerable segments of society.
A similar campaign rally was held in Asaita City, Afar Region, where party members and supporters expressed their backing for the Prosperity Party’s continued leadership.
Participants in Afar said the party had made notable progress in supporting pastoralist communities and strengthening development initiatives across the region, pledging continued support in consolidating what they described as multifaceted gains.
As Ethiopia’s 7th general elections scheduled for June 1 draw closer, competing political parties are also intensifying their campaign activities across various regions of the country, as the nationwide electoral process enters its final phase.
