African Union Calls for Restraint and Dialogue Amid Security Developments in Mogadishu
Addis Ababa, June 4, 2026 (FMC) — The African Union Commission has called for utmost restraint following reported security developments in Mogadishu, Somalia, including armed clashes in civilian areas.
In a statement issued today, the Commission expressed deep concern over the situation and urged all parties to immediately halt the fighting, exercise maximum restraint, protect civilians, and refrain from any actions that could further escalate tensions.
The African Union also called on Somali stakeholders to resolve differences through dialogue and established constitutional processes, emphasizing the importance of political engagement as the basis for stability and national cohesion.

The Commission encouraged the continued efforts of Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, alongside all political actors, in advancing national dialogue, reconciliation, and consensus-building aimed at strengthening political stability.
It further stated that the African Union will continue to closely monitor developments and reaffirmed its readiness, through the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), to provide continued support toward the restoration of peace and security in Somalia.
