PM Abiy: Modern Infrastructure and Green Development Remain Pillars of Urban Transformation

Addis Ababa, July 3, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining its drive toward building modern, green, and more livable cities through the nationwide Corridor Development Program.

In a social media post shared today, the Prime Minister said the primary objective of the initiative is to improve the lives of citizens by creating more comfortable and modern urban environments.

Referring to the Corridor Development Project in Arba Minch, which he visited today, Abiy said the completed infrastructure—including modern asphalt roads, street lighting, and digital display screens—has now been put into service and is providing benefits to the public.

He noted that the government’s corridor development efforts are guided by an integrated approach that combines high-quality modern infrastructure with green development to enhance the livability of cities.

The Prime Minister stressed that the government’s efforts to transform urban centers through sustainable and integrated development will continue with even greater commitment.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and a high-level government delegation have been on a working visit to the South Ethiopia Regional State since Thursday. During the visit, they have toured development projects in the region, including rural model villages and the Arba Minch Corridor Development Project.
