Ethiopia, Cameroon Seek to Expand Economic Cooperation as Diplomatic Ties Near 60 Years

Addis Ababa, 30 July 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and Cameroon have discussed ways to deepen economic cooperation as the two countries prepare to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos held talks with Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, focusing on bilateral relations and continental issues.

During the discussion, the two ministers highlighted the longstanding and strong diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Cameroon, while stressing the need to expand cooperation beyond political and diplomatic engagements.

Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations congratulated Ethiopia on the successful hosting of the 49th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union and expressed support for Ethiopia’s efforts aimed at enhancing the financial capacity of the continental bloc.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest as Ethiopia and Cameroon approach six decades of diplomatic partnership.
