Addis Ababa, September 10, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and India are moving to deepen cooperation in the financial and banking sectors, with their central bank governors agreeing to establish a joint technical team to identify practical areas for collaboration.
National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) Governor Eyob Tekalign held a bilateral meeting with Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra on the sidelines of the BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Mumbai.
The two governors exchanged views on opportunities to expand cooperation between the two countries, particularly across the financial and banking sectors.
As a concrete step toward advancing the partnership, they agreed to establish a joint technical team tasked with identifying and exploring feasible areas of cooperation and further strengthening financial sector ties between Ethiopia and India.
The agreement comes as Ethiopia and India continue to engage through broader platforms of cooperation, including BRICS, providing an avenue for the two countries to translate their economic and institutional ties into more structured financial-sector collaboration.
