Ethiopia and Kazakhstan Agree to Explore New Frontiers in Digitalization, Investment and Defense Cooperation

Addis Ababa, September 13, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and Kazakhstan have agreed to explore new frontiers of cooperation in digitalization, business and investment, and defense, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said following a bilateral meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the second morning of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India.

The meeting focused on ways to further develop the partnership between Ethiopia and Kazakhstan, with the two leaders agreeing to explore opportunities in the three areas, according to Prime Minister Abiy.

The discussions form part of Prime Minister Abiy’s continued bilateral engagements with leaders on the margins of the 18th BRICS Summit, as Ethiopia advances partnerships spanning economic, technological and strategic areas.

Prime Minister Abiy said the meeting with President Tokayev provided an opportunity to discuss ways of further developing ties between the two countries, with digitalization, business and investment, and defense identified as areas for exploring expanded cooperation.
