Former Tigray Police Chief Breaks With Illegal TPLF, Joins Federal Government

Addis Ababa, September 24, 2026 (FMC) — Major General Gebre Adhana, former Commissioner of the Tigray Regional Police and a veteran TPLF leader, has broken with the illegal TPLF group and joined the Federal Government.

Major General Gebre Adhana previously served in senior leadership positions within the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF), including as head of the Defense Intelligence and Operations Main Department, before serving as Commissioner of the Tigray Regional Police.

His decision to break with the group comes in opposition to what Ethiopian authorities describe as its continued activities, including the recruitment of children below the legal age for military service and their deployment to the battlefield, further aggravating the suffering of the people of Tigray.

The departure marks a significant break by a senior figure who had held prominent positions within the organization and the national defense establishment.
